Thinking about installing ESO on the Steam Deck.. Im a 34 year old father that works alot and have played ESO in the past (The first 3 or 4 months at launch). I currently do 90% of my gaming on the steam deck because of my busy life as a father that works full time.
Once in-game head to the Options menu in Settings > Gameplay > Gamepad > Enable Gamepad. Open Steam Input again, set to Gamepad but edit the right trackpad to be a mouse with a left mouse click. There were a couple caveats: Upon installation I got a black screen, I had to bring up the On-Screen Keyboard and hit enter. For best results, enable gamepad mode inside the game. IIRC you need to create an account on elderscrollsonline.com (not the forums but the main site) and then there is the ability to link this account to your steam one (there will be the usual amount of checks by steam to ensure you are you ). Once done then anything you buy here is applied to your steam account.
Download lutris and install through there. Google "gamingonlinux lutris" for install instruction. Once you get it running then click the plus icon on top left, and follow the steps. ESO pretty much gets launched via a launcher, so whether it’s the Steam version or not, it will technically launch from that. Just install the game, and add the launcher to Steam. I started on steam, then went non-steam, and now, i'm back to steam. I don't buy the expansions on steam. I buy them for the ESO account, and all show up on steam. I've done the same for ff14 - recently bought it on steam to make it easier to play on steam deck. All my stuff from the non-steam PC version is still valid.

Your settings for ESO are synced to the ESO servers, so when you hop back on PC, you will have the controller UI and will need to toggle it back off.
