After 1958 that model became known as the S&W Model 30.The finish is called as blue or blued and the grips look to be genuine mother of pearl (MOP)...very fragile and chip easily.As for the serial number (located on the bottom of the grip on the frame) someone else will have to chime in. It looks to me like a standard 6" barrel K frame .38 Special. They are very popular and are priced according to location. Some places worth more than others. Pretty gunked-up with oil & dust. First thought it was a .38 Special but saw the cylinder was way too short for a regular .38. It's a Model 33-1 in .38 S&W ctg. Orriginally produced with an alloy cylinder as well, but later changed to steel due to cracking. Yours being a -2 model, it would have the steel cylinder. They weren't made at an even x-number per year, so extrapolating your serial in that range isn't going to be exact. If the production was relatively linear then I'd guess 1928- ish. Serial numbers in the 760000 range were shipped in 1941 and the serial number range ended at 1000000 in 1942. The .38/200 British Service Revolver was made in the same serial number range in .38 S&W, both guns were followed by the Victory model starting at V1.
