This K frame revolver was Smith & Wesson's bread and butter gun and was produced in the millions. the number you are seeing on the inside of the frame is an assembly number used during manufacture to keep the frame and cylinder crane pieces mated.Locate the serial number on the left side of the pistol's frame. The standard location for the serial number is above the trigger guard. Some serial numbers are located underneath the frame in front of the trigger guard.
